    You Light up my Life - a record of SARS outbreak in Hong Kong

    Hong Kong people have coped with the challenges posed by SARS infection during the period of March to June 2003 with resilience, vigilance and unity. To promulgate and sustain such values in our community, the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education and the Education and Manpower Bureau have jointly compiled a book entitled "You Light up my Life". The book seeks to promote and stimulate thoughts of such values, with a view to enhancing the civic-mindedness of the general public.

    The book is now available at the Civic Education Resource Centre. It has also been distributed to all schools as teaching and reference materials.

    Long Term Strategies in enhancing civic awareness among the public

    The Committee has been making on-going efforts to implement the following long term strategies-

    • designation of one or more selected themes advocating particular core civic values in each year;
    • strengthening collaboration with district-based civic education committees in promotional efforts; and
    • exploring how best to promote the concept of "corporate citizenship" with a view to enhancing the civic-mindedness of the working population.
